About the Radio Station “Banat aw Bas” (Girls Only Radio Station)
The “Banat we Bass” Radio Station founded in April 2008, because it was necessary to start talking about a lot of problems women are facing in Egypt. Women are very often sexually harassed, they likely become victims of domestic violence and it is very difficult for many to work after being married. Official Egyptian media, strictly controlled by the state, would never issue such topics.
It was high time to change that. I had the idea to establish a radio station on the Internet. It would reach as much as possible people, also those who were illiterate, which is still a large number in Egypt.
Tackling taboos and being a new media form I did not get any support or grants from the national women rights. After a lot of effort and high personal risks I managed to get a personal loan from Bank. ,
and I got my Equipment and I rent a place in Cairo , and I started work officially 1st of July 2008 And I was thinking to pay the loan from the advertising but unfortunately the international financial crises happened and the advertisers canceled all the contracts and they told me that there is no budget to the online advertising and I worked many things to pay my bills , till I decide to establish a publishing house to support in a financial way to the radio and I named it “ Youth books publishing house “ it is for whom rejected by the Egyptian publishing house because they are not famous and talk in the sex and politics”
I toke the risk and I published my 1st book for my publishing house in it was talk about the homosexuality in Cairo and how to respect the others and their ideas and it sold out all the copies 5000 copy ,, and its support the radio ..And we succeeded to have a 5 million subscriber from this year 2008 till now ..
But during the revolution the national security officers came to my radio and the toke my equipment 2 mixers ,microphones,8 computers, phones ,Camera HD and also my books because we made a coverage for the revolution even they damage the air-condition .. and they arrest me for 3 days ,So after everything is finished I went to the head National Security Office and they deny that they arrest And they told me that they don’t know anything about my case which is a mess .So I am asking for helping me to continue my work again I have a rent I have to pay I have salaries for the presenters and reporters 8 persons didn’t got them salaries I have to pay the rent of the website and the streaming also And I will buy the new equipment from a ward I won it from the BMW Foundation and It is a bout 10000 Euro and I will buy the assets
